TerraMar.  The name (from Latin roots) was inspired by the confluence of the earth and the ocean and the many beautiful treasures both have to offer for my jewelry.  The earth, with hundreds of different kinds of gemstones, rocks, and minerals; some rare, others plentiful; offers an abundance of colors and shapes.

The ocean, with each wave washing on shore brings with it a new treasure.  It could be a shell or sea glass, polished by the tumble of the sea and kissed by the sun, or, perhaps a pearl. How something so wondrous emerges from an oyster’s way of protecting itself is one of nature’s loveliest surprises.

These offerings from the earth and the ocean are handcrafted by me using Sterling silver and 14K Gold Filled Wire.  The shape and color of the object with which I’m working, usually dictates the design.   Sometimes, I’ll think I know what I want to do and how I want a piece to look and the end product is totally different.  That’s the great part about art… sometimes it takes on a life of its own.  And, in the end, I always love all of the pieces.

I love this quote:

“The earth is like a beautiful bride who needs no manmade jewels to heighten her loveliness.” ~Kahlil Gibran
